Police arrest 5 suspected robbers in Lagos

LAGOS—The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five notorious armed robbery suspects who specialised in terrorising residents, traders and commuters at Ketu, Iyano-Era, Alasia, Morogbo and its environs. The suspects, identified as Ajay Solomon, 25; Momodu Williams, 19; Kazeem Ganiu, 19; Elija Dada, 19, and Seun Ariyo, 19, were arrested on Sunday, May 24, during an operation at Ijanikin.
It was gathered that 40 bandits stormed the area robbing, maiming and attacking unsuspecting residents in their homes. They moved from Palace Road to Amosu-Igboro Street and residents returning from work and shop owners were not spared.
They lost their valuables as shops were looted. Vanguard learned that anti-robbery team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent of Police Robinson Eregare, apprehended the suspects while they robbed residents of Amosu-Igboro, Ijanikin.
The police acted on a distress call from residents that robbers were operating in the area. Twenty-five years old Ajay Solomon, a native of Oto-Awori, who just returned from prison about three weeks ago, explained his involvement in the robbery. He said: “I started robbing about two years ago. I went into robbery because I am an orphan. I became a cultist about five years ago, when I joined Eiye confraternity. My parents died while I was young.
“I dropped out of school in SS 2 and became a welder apprentice. I am not the leader of the gang. The name of the gang leader is Dollar. “We planned the operation while we were at the Egun festival, which was held at Oto-Awori.” Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kenneth Nwosu, said the suspects has been arrested and will soon be arraigned in court.
