Siasia raids F/ Eagles

Dream Team VI: Siasia raids F/ Eagles

Miffed by the Dream Team’s unimpressive form, the chief coach of the team, Samson Siasia, has drafted the Flying Eagles captain, Musa Mohammed, prolific striker Taiwo Awoniyi and three others to join the U-23 team camp in Abuja next week ahead of preparation for the 2015 All Africa Games qualifying match against Congo next month.
Coach Siasia who made the disclosure in Abuja yesterday after his teams training session, noted that there is the need to fortify the team from the Flying Eagles team especially those who were with the team when they defeated Zambia in Lusaka last April.
While lamenting the lack of scoring form among his attackers, both at training and matches, Siasia noted that the players inability to convert begging chances had been the major problem facing the team’s technical crew. The Nigerian former international also confirmed that he had already reached out to the players, adding that he only gave them one week to rest after their return from New Zealand where they crashed out of the ongoing FIFA World Youth Championship.
“We want to do well. We want to win the heart of Nigerian fans and to do that means that we have to score goals because if you don’t score goals you cannot win matches.”
Yes, it is still a team in the making, but even when we play weaker teams, we have to score goals. We are not scoring goals, it is a big problem and that is what we are working at right now.
“For the match against Congo here in Nigeria, we have to prepare very well because you cannot give what you don’t have. We have to improve in the areas of goal scoring as I said earlier and to build the confidence of the boys because we can keep possessions but we must have to put that ball inside that net to win matches.
“I have spoken with a couple of the U-20 players. I have asked them to go and rest for one week before they join us next week. I think by tomorrow we should be able to release their names officially so that they can start training with us ahead of the Congo match. We have chosen five of them and as soon as they come back, we will start proper preparations for the match,” Siasia revealed.
