 A transformer
Olakiitan Victor in Ado Ekiti
Youths of Ikere Ekiti on Thursday   trooped to the streets in protest over persistent power outage caused by their transformer that was purportedly vandalized  by thieves.
They accused the staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company of complicity in the transformer’s missing parts and the suffering of
the residents of the area.
The protesters, who are mostly from Afao quarters , a pivotal section of the town, blocked the Ado-Ikere-Akure highway and prevented free movement of vehicles for hours.
The development forced commuters travelling from Akure to Ado Ekiti to hurriedly take a detour at Iju , a neighbouring town in Ondo
State, and return to the base, while those travelling from  Ado Ekiti to Ondo State took a similar decision .
They blocked the road with planks and big stones at regular intervals , while the highway was turned into a playing field by some of them who had interest in the game of football, thereby compounding easy passage of commuters .
