N-DELTA: Buhari asks for patience, promises to rebuild Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to Nigerians especially people from the Niger Delta to be patient with his government, promising to gradually rebuild the country. The president said that a lot of damage had been done on the country, noting that he was taking concrete measures to restore it to its lost glory. The president spoke while receiving a delegation of Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group, led by His Royal Highness, King Alfred Diette-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass, Bayelsa State, at State House, Abuja, yesterday.. The meeting came after the president also held a security meeting with all security heads in country. Buhari Those in attendance were the service chiefs: General Abayomi Olonishakin, Chief of Defence Staff; General T. Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Ibok-Ete Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff; Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Monday Morgan, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd), National Security Adviser, NSA. The acting Inspector General of Police, Kpotum Idris and the Director, Department of State Services, Duaru were also in attendants. Others included governor of Benue and Delta State, Messrs Sam Ortom and Ifeanyi Okowa. Speaking at the meeting with the Niger Delta group, President Buhari according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said that that under his watch Nigeria would witness judicious utilization of resources. He said: “We intend to rebuild this country so that our children and grand-children will have a good place they can call their own. A lot of damage had been done. So, I want you to tell the people to be patient. “When you get together with other leaders, please pacify the people. We will utilize the resources of Nigeria with integrity and rebuild the country,” he said. The President said the gazette on the Niger Delta amnesty programme by the Umaru Yar’Adua administration was being studied with a view to determining what had been fulfilled, promising that whatever was left would equally be addressed.”
